Genoa Coach Fabio Liverani insists “a draw would’ve been the right result” after their 1-0 loss to Udinese.

Emanuele Calaiò scored an own goal at the Stadio Friuli from an Antonio Di Natale free kick.

“We played well and I’m bitter about this defeat,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We had a great opportunity with Moussa Kone and games like this tend to be decided by an incident. Perhaps we lacked hunger and experience. It’s a shame for Emanuele and he was unlucky with the own goal, but I don’t recall any particularly decisive Mattia Perin saves.

“We had scored in all our games this season before the 0-0 with Livorno, while we came here to play and didn’t hold back. Clearly we’d like to do more, but this is a new group and a new Coach, so we need more certainty in defence before going on the attack.

“I think a draw would’ve been the right result today. We aren’t very high up the standings, but it’s also true that by the weekend we’ll have faced five of the top six teams from last season.”
