Marcello Lippi says “all three” of Max Allegri, Luciano Spalletti and Carlo Ancelotti remind him of himself.

The China Coach has previously been on the bench at Juventus, Napoli and Inter, and he was asked which of the top three Coaches he sees himself in.

“Would you believe me if I said all three?” Lippi replied, speaking to Corriere dello Sport.

“Perhaps the analogies with Allegri are most numerous. He, like me, arrived at Juve at 46 and also like me he won the league on his first attempt.

“Perhaps the analogies with Allegri are most numerous. He, like me, arrived at Juve at 46 and also like me he won the league on his first attempt.

“We both have Tuscan roots, as does Luciano. If you think about it, all three now how to make a squad, transmit positivity, read a game and face up to different moments.

“Ancelotti probably has the advantage of being both a player and a Coach for big teams, which winning is an obligation and losing is a disgrace. He knows what it means.

“Carlo is taking the team in his hands, involving everyone and making them feel important. In the decisive phase of the season there’ll be synthesis, you’ll see.

“He hasn’t thrown away [Maurizio] Sarri’s work, he’s kept the best elements and added his own.

“As for Inter, the difference to the past is self-belief. Five, six victories in a row can change the mentality and objectives of a group.

“Inter are aware of their strength now, they know they can get a result at any time. Spalletti has made everyone feel involved, just like Ancelotti.

“When I saw on Monday that Joao Mario, who hadn’t played since January, would be starting I knew they’d win the game.

Roma are strong, but they need to believe in themselves more. They need a run of results but Eusebio [Di Francesco] is intelligent and well-prepared.”

Lippi is most famous for his work at Juventus, where he won five Scudetti and the Champions League in two spells in charge, and he was asked about the Old Lady.

“Cristiano Ronaldo arrived at the right time, if he’d been signed three or four years ago when Real [Madrid], Barcelona and Bayern [Munich] were decidedly superior he’d have had less of an impact.

“Now Juventus are at the same level as the top European clubs, they’ve grown a lot, so I have positive feelings.

“Perhaps this Ronaldo is not quite the one of Madrid, but he carries himself like a top Juve player. He’s immediately done his part and his teammates have welcomed him very well, recognising his greatness on the pitch.

“If he’s been less prolific, at least up to now, it’s because he’s up against a more advanced defensive football.

“Paulo Dybala? The two of them are good and their understanding will improve over time.”
