“He’s not only a great goalkeeper, he’s a reference point for his teammates, for the club and for the fans,” Lippi noted.

“He transmits thoughts, positive qualities to help the team win. We experienced unforgettable moments together and I’m really attached to him beyond football.

“You know what it’s like for the fans, the exceptional high regard in which they hold him? Well it’s much more for me because there’s the human relationship too.

“Right now I see him as a very strong goalkeeper, and for the future I’ll repeat what I’ve said to many of my former players when they left football: don’t be in a hurry, take a break and enjoy time with your family.

“With peace of mind it’ll be easier to make the right decision.”
