Gary Lineker suggests Milan defender Fikayo Tomori should start over Harry Maguire for England following poor performances from the Manchester United centre-back.

The Rossoneri star didn’t play a single minute during the international break. Gareth Southgate left him on the bench for 90 minutes against Italy on Friday and didn’t include him in the team for Monday’s game against Germany at Wembley.

His choices have caused outrage in England and Italy, considering that Tomori has been playing a key role for the Rossoneri while Maguire has lost his starting spot at Old Trafford.

Lineker is among those who see Tomori as an ideal fit for the Three Lions. The ex-striker made his voice heard on Twitter, suggesting that the product of Chelsea academy should start over Maguire for England.

Tomori, 24, joined Milan on an initial loan deal from Chelsea in January 2021 and the Rossoneri made his move permanent six months later for circa €29m.

The English centre-back has made 71 competitive appearances with the Diavoli, scoring two goals and was included in the Serie A Team Of The Season for 2021-22, Milan’s first title-winning campaign in 11 years.

  1. no one likes macguire – cant blame them, even though tomori hasnt been as good as last yr, he’s still a better defender – mcguire lack of pace is damaging – he cant time his tackles like chiellini / vidic / as we say against germany yesterday
