Only a few days ago, Dzeko didn’t know if he’d be lining up for this fixture in the Giallorossi or Bianconeri jersey.

Arkadiusz Milik’s failure to agree an exit from Napoli and move to Roma ultimately scuppered that transfer, so Juve went for Alvaro Morata on loan from Atletico Madrid instead.

Dzeko was benched as a precaution for last week’s 0-0 draw with Verona, but Roma forfeited the game 3-0 because they fielded Amadou Diawara despite him being on the Under-22 list after his 23rd birthday.

Javier Pastore, Diego Perotti and of course Nicolò Zaniolo are injured, but Pedro Rodriguez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan support Dzeko, with Lorenzo Pellegrini in a deeper midfield role and Davide Santon at right-wing-back.

Marash Kumbulla makes his debut following the transfer from Hellas Verona.

Juventus have been totally revamped by coach Andrea Pirlo, who changes the side that beat Sampdoria 3-0 in the opening round.

Gianluca Frabotta is benched, Dejan Kulusevski moved to the right wing-back role, Juan Cuadrado to the left.

It could also be a 4-4-2, but reports suggest a 3-5-2.

Morata is thrown straight into the starting XI with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Matthijs de Ligt, Alex Sandro and Federico Bernardeschi are still out of action, with Paulo Dybala only fit enough for the bench.

Roma: Mirante; Mancini, Ibanez, Kumbulla; Santon, Veretout, Pellegrini, Spinazzola; Mkhitaryan, Pedro; Dzeko

Juventus: Szczesny; Danilo, Bonucci, Chiellini; Kulusevski, McKennie, Rabiot, Ramsey, Cuadrado; Cristiano Ronaldo, Morata
