The Bianconeri can at least temporarily go top of the table awaiting Napoli’s trip to Benevento this evening, but Max Allegri has some problems to contend with.

He must do without injured Paulo Dybala, Juan Cuadrado, Douglas Costa and Benedikt Howedes, while Bernardeschi is not fully fit either, but has to start anyway.

Bernardeschi must play through the pain alongside Gonzalo Higuain and Mario Mandzukic as the only available forwards.

Andrea Barzagli was named in the starting XI, but makes way for Daniele Rugani after suffering a calf problem.

Captain Gigi Buffon made his comeback on Tuesday in the Coppa Italia semi-final after six weeks out with a calf injury and saved a penalty in that 1-0 victory over Atalanta.

Sassuolo are without a win in four rounds, but recently beat Inter and held Roma to a draw at the Stadio Olimpico, so tend to raise their game against bigger clubs.

Coach Beppe Iachini will be glad the transfer window has shut, as the Neroverdi resisted a €29m offer from Napoli for winger Matteo Politano.

They also brought in Khouma Babacar from Fiorentina in a swap deal with Diego Falcinelli, plus signed defender Mauricio Lemos from Las Palmas.

Edoardo Goldaniga is suspended, so Lemos and Babacar are thrown straight in at the deep end.

This is always a special game for Domenico Berardi, as Juventus had an option on him for several years, but he always refused a move to Turin, fearing he’d get little playing time.

It’s safe to say Sassuolo have few good memories of Turin, losing all four Serie A trips, scoring one goal and conceding nine.

The Neroverdi have beaten Juventus only once in their total nine top flight meetings, 1-0 in October 2015, drawing one and losing all the others.
