Inter beat Crotone earlier this afternoon, which means nothing less than a victory will keep Stefano Pioli’s men top of the table in the first round of 2021.

Franck Kessie returns from his ban, but is replaced in the stands by Theo Hernandez, who scored the last-gasp winner in their 3-2 thriller against Lazio.

Ibrahimovic, Ismael Bennacer, Alexis Saelemaekers and Matteo Gabbia are still injured, with Samu Castillejo not at 100 per cent.

Diogo Dalot steps in for Theo at left-back, with Rafael Leao the centre-forward supported by Brahim Diaz, Hakan Calhanoglu and Ante Rebic.

Benevento ended 2020 with back-to-back 2-0 victories over Genoa and Udinese to lift them into mid-table comfort.

They’ve lost only one of their last seven games, taking points off Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina.

This is a special occasion for Pippo Inzaghi, who was a Milan hero as striker and then coach.

He has to do without Luca Caldirola, Iago Falque, Nicolas Viola and Christian Maggio, but there’s another ex-Milan player upfront in the form of Gianluca Lapadula.

He is supported by Gianluca Caprari and Artur Ionita.

Curiously, Milan have never beaten Benevento, managing a thrilling 2-2 draw on Gennaro Gattuso’s debut – when goalkeeper Alberto Brignoli scored the stoppage-time equaliser – and winning 1-0 at San Siro in April 2018.

BENEVENTO (4-3-2-1): Montipò; Letizia, Tuia, Glik, Barba; Hetemaj, Schiattarella, Ionita; Insigne, Caprari; Lapadula
MILAN: (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma G.; Calabria, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Dalot; Tonali, Kessie; Diaz, Calhanoglu, Rebic; Leao.
