Leonardo made over 100 appearances for Milan between 1997 and 2001 and coached them for the 2009-10 season, while he guided Inter to the Coppa Italia a year later, yet the Brazilian made it clear he was unimpressed by both of their efforts in the transfer market.

“For me, Inter’s players aren’t among the best players in the world, none of them are in the top 10,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Unfortunately it’s like this: you can’t say certain players [of theirs] would belong to Barcelona or Manchester United.

“At present, Milan are out of the Champions League. The best players aren’t there.

“It’s a market problem, but there they have just scraps from other [clubs].”
