Benitez has apparently refused to resign, so Moratti's lawyers are working on taking legal action for damage to the club's reputation after his comments in the wake of the Club World Cup victory.

According to Tuttosport, Leonardo has been chosen as the replacement and is on his way to Italy.

The Brazilian walked out on Milan after just one season at the helm following disagreements with President Silvio Berlusconi.

He was not the first choice, but Fabio Capello, Luciano Spalletti and Pep Guardiola do not wish to free themselves from their ties to England, Zenit and Barcelona respectively.
