PSG director Leonardo hints either Keylor Navas or Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma will be sold this summer. ‘We really needed to take advantage of this opportunity.”

The club secured its 10th Ligue 1 title this evening thanks to a 1-1 draw with RC Lens and Navas was in goal, leaving Donnarumma on the bench.

This switching between the two goalkeepers has been a constant cause of controversy and debate, with many expecting one of them to leave in the summer, potentially sending Donnarumma back to Serie A.

Why did PSG sign Donnarumma as a free agent from Milan if they did not intend to make him their first choice?

“The situation has been clear from the start,” Leonardo assured on Sky Sport Italia.

“We had a goalkeeper we were very happy with, one of the best in the world, Navas. The situation with Donnarumma was a player everyone knows, he was 22 years old and was becoming one of the best in the world, so we felt we really needed to take advantage of this opportunity.

“A decision was made to try to give them both playing time and the chance to play relatively consistently. If we had managed to go all the way in every competition, people wouldn’t have remarked so much about it, but because of a defeat it was brought to the fore.”

Donnarumma has played 22 competitive games this season, compared to Navas with 24.

“Navas knows everything, so does Gigio, we have no problem making a decision that will be the best for all concerned. If there’s a decision that suits everyone, we will make it,” added Leonardo.

Donnarumma also posted an image on Instagram of him celebrating the Ligue 1 title with Navas.

“Yes, they get along very well, they have a good rapport.”

Leonardo was also asked whether Mauricio Pochettino will be the Paris Saint-Germain coach next season, especially after reports they had approached current Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte.

“Mauricio still has a contract with us, it’s only natural everyone wants to talk and see how things will progress. It has been a bit of a tough campaign, we are champions of France for the 10th time and then we’ll see.”

  1. Maybe they will sold navas, as no one really approach donnaruma wage when he’s free, more so now clubs need transfer fee and his wage is raising if he’s going to left the club
