Inter President Massimo Moratti is seriously considering the appointment of Leonardo as Rafa Benitez's replacement.

By now, it looks like a matter of days until Benitez gets the sack even though he told reporters yesterday that he would be back from a Christmas holiday in Liverpool in time for training at Appiano Gentile on December 29.

La Gazzetta dello Sport understands Benitez has received an email from Inter's lawyer and that despite his public desire to stay on at San Siro, his time is up.

Moratti had initially sounded out Luciano Spalletti regarding the upcoming vacancy, but extracting the former Roma boss from his contract with Zenit St. Petersburg would prove too expensive.

His attention has since turned to Leonardo, who he holds in particularly high esteem despite the Brazilian's past with Milan.

Reports claim Moratti has already called the 41-year-old to ask if he is prepared to take the job.

Leonardo is currently in Rio de Janeiro for a charity match, but it's thought that he will sign a two-year deal with Inter.
