Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo reportedly irritated Roma and José Mourinho by saying that the Portuguese’s coach comments after a 1-0 loss against Inter on Sunday ‘sounded like an alibi.’

Mourinho complained about referees and Lega Serie A after Roma’s defeat against Inter this past weekend. He said referee Fabio Maresca disrespected his players, while Lega Serie A should have allowed the game to be played on Monday in order to give his players an extra day to rest after a Europa League game on Thursday.

Lega Serie A chief De Siervo hit back at Mourinho on Monday: “I respect Mourinho for what he does for Roma and for football, but in all honesty, his comments sounded like an alibi,” he said.

“He is a professional who knows our world of sport. Just look at Barcelona, who played in the Champions League and then had the Clasico against Real Madrid at 4 pm.”

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Roma have not taken De Siervo’s words too well. The Giallorossi believe that a person in his position should be impartial and not judge the coach of a Serie A club, especially publicly.

Roma are not expected to release an official statement about the matter but are said to be ‘irritated’ by De Siervo’s claims.

Following Roma’s loss to Inter, the Giallorossi sit 9th in the Serie A table with 14 points, five below fourth-placed Atalanta.
