Lecce picked up their first win of the season in an edgy 2-1 victory over a disappointing Salernitana tonight.

The newly promoted side found themselves in the dregs of the bottom end of the Serie A table heading into this weekend, having only picked up three points from their opening six fixtures. Salernitana’s campaign kicked off a little more positively and they seemed confident after a controversial 2-2 draw with Juventus last week.

On a warm September evening in Campania, Lecce finally managed to right the ship and pick up all three points, with goals from Assan Ceesay and Gabriel Strefezza doing enough to bring home the win. Salernitana’s only hope came from an own goal from Joan Gonzalez just before the hour mark, but they failed to take advantage of the opportunity, even if they saw more of the ball across the 90.

Lecce will be hoping to maintain this momentum for their next game against Cremonese, another key game in view of a possible relegation battle, whilst Salernitana will be hoping to bounce back in a tough clash against Sassuolo.
