Rafael Leao arrived at Milanello several hours earlier than the rest of the Rossoneri squad ahead of the penultimate training session before the Champions League semi-final second leg against Inter on Tuesday night.

The 23-year-old was seen entering Milan’s training complex at around 11.15 on Monday morning, despite the group session being scheduled to take place at 17.00 in the afternoon.

It is thought that his early arrival probably has something to do with additional treatments to help speed up the recovery process from the injury he picked up during Milan’s 2-0 win over Lazio in Serie A last Saturday.

The Portuguese international hobbled off after just 11 minutes at San Siro that afternoon and was subsequently ruled out of the first leg of the Champions League tie against Inter four days afterwards.

Stefano Pioli and the rest of the team sorely missed Leao’s presence in the first game of the tie as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat.

Encouragingly for the Rossoneri, Leao did take part in training with the rest of the group on Sunday morning, although he was spared for the practice match at the end of the session for precautionary measures.

It is hoped that he is fit enough to make his return against Inter on Tuesday, where Milan will need a statement performance to overturn the two-goal deficit.
