Lazio midfielder Antonio Candreva has declared that the Biancocelesti’s ambition this season is to qualify for the Champions League.

Stefano Pioli’s men currently sit just one point from third place, and Candreva admits that the Champions League is where the club wants to be.

“With our feet still on the ground, I’ll say it – we want to achieve third place this year,” Candreva has told Il Messaggero.

“Scudetto is a great word, but there are a lot of teams like Lazio who are still missing something needed to compete with Juventus and Roma.

“The leap we have to make isn’t a big one, but the gap is still there.

“This year we want to win all the time. We’ll give anyone a game, because we know we’re a good team.”

The former Juventus midfielder then looked ahead to Lazio’s clash with Verona at the Bentegodi on Wednesday evening.

“We must not make the mistake of going to Verona convinced that we have already won.

“We remember [we lost] 4-1 there last year. We have to keep our feet on the ground, if we do that I’m sure we’ll win.”

As well as a starring role for Lazio, Candreva has also picked up 23 Italy caps, and the midfielder is keen to remain in Italy CT Antonio Conte’s thoughts ahead of the European Championships in 2016.

“I hope I can play the European Championships in France, and play a leading role.”
