Lazio will wear special anti-racism shirts during the warm-up of their Serie A match against Empoli, after the Curva Nord was closed due to offensive chants.

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 14.00 GMT.

The Curva Nord will be shut down for this match as punishment for the clearly audible racist chants from Lazio’s travelling fans in the midweek 2-1 defeat to Lecce.

They were so persistent and loud that Barcelona-owned defender Samuel Umtiti was reduced to tears.

Lazio had lodged an appeal, insisting they have tried repeatedly to use anti-racism initiatives, and are doing so again today with a special shirt during the warm-up.

“We love football, we fight racism,” is the motto used.

However, a statement from the Curva Nord ultras only confirmed the problem will not be resolved, as they accused the football authorities of “hypocrisy” for staging the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing.
