Lazio are scrambling for a striker after Burak Yilmaz’s move collapsed, including Fabio Quagliarella, but “there’s no chance” for Tim Matavz.

The Biancocelesti have apparently been caught short, as they completed Libor Kozak’s sale to Aston Villa for £5-7m, but have no replacement.

A deal was practically done with Galatasaray for Burak Yilmaz until this evening, when his agent suddenly demanded a €2m fee.

Sky Sport Italia claim President Claudio Lotito was livid and even threatened to call the Turkish Ambassador in Rome and UEFA President Michel Platini to complain.

On the other hand, Sport Mediaset and SportItalia insist the reason it fell apart was Galatasaray’s refusal to accept the €15m payment in instalments.

Now Lazio need a different option and they are struggling, as director of sport Igli Tare spoke to journalists after a meeting with the agent of PSV striker Matavz.

“There’s no chance,” was his comment.

Lazio have turned to Quagliarella, who could leave Juventus if they take Alberto Gilardino from Genoa.

It’s reported Juventus have accepted offers for Quagliarella from both Lazio and Roma, so now it’s up to the player to decide.

He appears to be leaning towards the Biancocelesti, as they are in the Europa League and there is less competition for starting spots in attack.

However, his future depends on Gilardino going to Juve and Bianconeri director general Beppe Marotta told Tuttosport “there’s no agreement yet.”

Sky Sport Italia also suggest there’s a problem with Marco Borriello’s move to Genoa, without which they won’t release Gilardino, as his €4m wages are a sticking point.
