Lazio are trying to insert themselves in the race to sign Napoli forward Andrea Petagna, giving Monza some tough competition.

The newly promoted side, owned by Silvio Berlusconi, have been in talks with the Partenopei for weeks in a bid to agree a deal for the Italian forward. Petagna is keen for a move away from Campania after struggling for consistent minutes under Luciano Spalletti last season.

As reported by TMW, Lazio have recently opened talks with Napoli to discuss a deal for Petagna. The Roman club are still looking for a reliable backup to Ciro Immobile and believe the 27-year-old might be the right low-cost option.

Corriere dello Sport reported yesterday that Monza had agreed to sign Petagna on a €5m loan deal with a €10m buy option attached, so Lazio may need to match this if they want to secure a deal. Updates are expected in the coming days, with less than a month left until the Serie A season kicks off.
