Lazio have released a statement denying Miroslav Klose is angry at their transfer strategy. “Someone is trying to destabilise the atmosphere within the team.”

There were stories in the media over the past week that both Klose and Coach Edy Reja had blazing rows with director of sport Igli Tare, to the point the German had gone ‘on strike’ for Wednesday game against Milan.

The Biancocelesti failed to bring in Keisuke Honda from CSKA Moscow, a full-back or a star striker, instead selling Djibril Cissè, Giuseppe Sculli and Guglielmo Stendardo.

“With regards to stories published in the media, SS Lazio would like to point out the following,” read the statement

“1. The proposal sent to CSKA to sign Honda was worth €13m over three instalments plus the sale of goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo. It was the biggest economic proposal made by any Italian club in January 2012.

“2. Miroslav Klose was attributed certain discussions and critical comments on the director of sport, but the player categorically denies these quotes. He confirms that he considers the squad to be fully competitive for the objectives he aspires to, as proved by the recent game with Milan, which he failed to take part in only due to a physical problem.

“3. Lazio once again point out to its fans that someone is trying to destabilise the atmosphere within the team and damage the cohesion that has been the principle force behind the success earned so far.”
