Houssine Kharja has returned to Fiorentina from Africa Cup of Nations duty, but carrying an injury that’ll keep him out for a month.

The midfielder had missed most of January so he could go on international duty with Morocco, but their elimination from the competition has not brought good news at club level.

“Kharja returned on Thursday from the Africa Cup of Nations,” confirmed Fiorentina chief medic Dr Manetti.

“He has sprained his ankle with damage to the deltoid ligament and an impact on the bone equivalent to a micro fracture.

“The prognosis is for two weeks of treatment and a further two to recover. He has already begun specialised therapy to help the bone heal.”

There is better news for Fiorentina defender Per Kroldrup, who visited a specialist in London for his long-standing Achilles tendon problem.

The Dane will not require surgery and should recover after around two weeks.
