Lazio have given an update on Ciro Immobile after further tests, confirming he was not in any condition to play for Italy this evening.

The striker had pulled out of Friday’s 1-0 win over England and hoped to recover in time for tonight’s Nations League trip to Hungary.

However, he caused controversy when getting as far as the tarmac of the airport, only to then go back home.

It was reported in La Gazzetta dello Sport that Lazio President Claudio Lotito personally intervened to block his departure for Budapest.

Roberto Mancini assured the Italy staff had already decided Immobile was not fit to play and would return to his club.

This evening, Lazio released a statement confirming Immobile had further tests at the Paideia clinic in Rome and would require more tests over the next few days to ‘quantify the recovery time.’

This makes it clear that Immobile would not have been able to play tonight for Italy.
