The 19-year-old arrived in Italy yesterday for talks and spent the night at Trigoria, the club's training HQ, after getting on a train from Milan to Rome.

Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has been tracking the South American attacking midfielder for months.

River Plate have agreed to sell the player following their relegation and a deal has seemingly been done.

Reports on Thursday suggested that Lamela would be signed by the Eternal City outfit for a fee of €12m.

However, according to a report in Il Tempo, Sabatini has managed to get the fee lowered to €10m but with a condition.

As part of the agreement, River Plate would be guaranteed 20 per cent of any transfer fee Roma subsequently got for the player.

Lamela is ready to sign a five-year contract worth an estimated €1.5m a term.
