Erik Lamela hopes Roma “can win the Scudetto by beating Juventus” but won’t return to Serie A any time soon.

The Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder spent two seasons with the Giallorossi before moving to the English Premier League, and still follows them from afar.

“I can’t help but wish the best for the club, the squad, the Coach and the fans,” Lamela told Tuttomercatoweb.

“I had a great time in Rome, they made me feel at home from day one. I had wonderful years there, I feel joy when I talk about the Giallorossi.

“They’ve lost some players, that’s true, but I think they’re in good shape. I want to give credit to [Luciano] Spalletti’s side, we’re talking about a Roma who will always fight for the top, including the Scudetto.

“Juventus? It certainly seems like they’re too strong for everyone else, and they’ve reinforced a squad which was already top-level.

“They’ve bought great players and, as I said, they seem like the best in Italy but I hope that will change this year.

“Roma will fight to the end, I hope they can win the Scudetto by beating Juventus. I’ll definitely be cheering for them.”

Lamela has often been linked with a return to Serie A, but he insists he wants to stay at Spurs.

“My future is here and my focus is only on Tottenham. There isn’t much time until the start of the Premier League, I want to give my all for this club.

“Why haven’t I returned to Serie A? I’ll be honest, there wasn’t much missing. I was very close to Italy, but my will never changed and I always wanted to wear the Tottenham shirt.

“Of course, the first year didn’t go well from a personal point of view, but I never gave up and I always had London in my head.

“I went to a club which has always helped, supported and respected me. I’m good in London, and that’s the most important thing.”
