Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has spent the past few days in South America to watch the talent in action.

"He saw him on Sunday in the River Plate-San Lorenzo game," the player's father, Jose, told the Corriere dello Sport.

"I think that Erik is ready to have an experience in Italy even if he is still very young. To play for a club like Roma would be important for him.

"I think a transfer to Italy is possible, but at the moment my boy is with the Argentina squad and is thinking about nothing else."

Lamela is being valued at €12m and has also attracted the interest of Lazio, Napoli and Milan in recent times.

However, after arriving back in Italy today, Sabatini refused to give anything away. "I'll just say that Lamela is a good player," he noted.
