Roma have dismissed speculation that they will attempt to offer Palermo Simon Kjaer in exchange for Matias Silvestre.

“It’s fantasy football,” Giallorosso sporting director Walter Sabatini told Media Gol. “Thinking and talking about such an operation is premature and highly unlikely.

“I have great respect for Silvestre as he is an excellent player and Palermo did well to buy him. However, Kjaer is on a path with us.”

Palermo know Kjaer well as they signed him in 2008 and he was soon followed to the club by Sabatini after Rino Foschi's exit.

Following a year at Wolfsburg, the Danish international moved to Roma on loan in the summer – but he has struggled for form.

It’s unclear at this moment whether Roma will take up their option to sign the centre-back outright once his loan spell comes to an end in June.
