Juventus youngster Fabio Miretti says Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne is his role model, but he also watched Pavel Nedved: ‘He was my idol as a kid.’

The 18-year-old is one of the most exciting prospects of Juventus’ academy and Italian football. He is one of the permanent members of the U23 squad that plays in Serie C. Miretti made his senior debut with the Old Lady in December in a Champions League match against Malmoe in Turin.

He also made his first appearance in Serie A ten days ago when he was introduced in the final minutes of the home match against strugglers Salernitana. A versatile centre midfielder, Miretti has scored three goals in nine appearances with Italy’s U19 squad and is expected to start against Belgium today.

“This year, I’ve played in every position in midfield with the national team: deep-lying playmaker, centre midfielder or Trequartista (attacking midfielder). Honestly, I like all the roles, so I can adapt with no problems to what the coach wants,” Miretti told Tuttosport newspaper.

“I’ve been playing for Juventus for 11 years, I’ve gone through the youth sector and now I am part of the U23 squad in Serie C, but when the senior team needs me, I always try to be ready.

“I was so happy when Juventus called me. I was having fun wearing the Bianconeri shirt. As the years pass by, the dream is to go all the way through. Luckily, I managed to make my senior debut so I am extremely satisfied.

Who are his role models?

“Pavel Nedved has been my role model since I was a child. I was four years old and I liked him so much,” he said.

“Now, I mostly look to Man City’s Kevin de Bruyne. What impresses me, is his technique, but also his vision. He always knows where to pass the ball. He is a champion, a complete midfielder under every aspect.”
