Juventus released a statement after Paul Pogba was provisionally suspended for failing a Serie A anti-doping test, confirming it will ‘consider the next procedural steps.’

The midfielder showed elevated levels of testosterone in his blood test after the 3-0 win away to Udinese on August 20.

Pogba did not participate in that match, sitting on the bench throughout, but was one of those randomly selected to undergo the doping test.

After initial reports from news agency ANSA this afternoon, the anti-doping tribunal officially confirmed that Pogba was provisionally suspended after failing an initial doping test.

“Juventus Football Club announces that today, September 11, 2023, the footballer Paul Labile Pogba received a precautionary suspension order from the National Anti-Doping Tribunal following the results of tests carried out on August 20, 2023.

“The club reserves the right to consider the next procedural steps.”

The B Sample will now be analysed to confirm the positive result and then Pogba will either accept wrongdoing or try to prove any performance-enhancing substances were taken unknowingly or with accidental contamination.

Even if he is cleared of intentionally taking performance-enhancing substances, this is a lengthy process, as Atalanta defender Jose Luis Palomino was banned for almost four months before eventually being found not guilty of taking Clostebol.
