After Matthijs de Ligt confessed his Juventus contract extension is absolutely not to be taken for granted, results aren’t the only problems that could push the defender away.
The Dutch international put his club on red alert with comments to NOS today that revealed he is still considering whether to sign a new deal with the Bianconeri.
De Ligt on Juventus contract renewal: ‘When the time comes I’ll decide’
He made it clear that results were one of the main issues, as Juve have finished fourth in Serie A for two seasons in a row, and this was their first campaign empty-handed in over a decade.
That’s not the only problem, though, as Tuttomercatoweb and Sportitalia also outline issues with the Old Lady and their new salary policy.
Following the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo, the plan is to reduce the wage bill, which is why Paulo Dybala was released as a free agent and the original €10m per season offer withdrawn.
De Ligt currently earns €8m per season net plus performance-related bonuses, which is roughly the same figure being offered to incoming free agent Paul Pogba.
In order to extend at a lower salary, Juventus are reportedly ready to significantly cut down the existing €120m release clause.
Non solo i risultati: perché la trattativa Juve-De Ligt per il rinnovo non sta decollando https://t.co/cxl3kw2Tvn

Danilo, De Ligt, Bremer, Cuadradro
Chiesa, Locatelli, Pogba, Di Maria
Gabriel Jesus, Vlahovic
@John
Cuadrado is a natural winger, deploying him to defensive roles is such a waste of talent and energy for a 34 yo.
Juve is better off buying a left-back is Pellegrini is going to leave the club. Also Chiesa isn’t proabably gonna play in the first half of the season.
Players are so greedy today no loyalty
This player is not reliable in big games. Juve should sell him.
120m for de ligt is a bargain. Hes an average defender
The Dutch Phil Jones only has 3 excuses. In his 3 years, he has had to go through 3 different coaches, an injured Chiellini and an overrated, as well as older Bonucci. That said he is clumsy, overrated and likes hand to hand contact. The amount of penalties he gives away is alarming. That game against the Czech Republic showed his true short comings. Better for him to leave and get away from PhD Max. But knowing Juventus, they will make the Sandro mistake and not cash in.
@muto,I agree with you this guy is another waste of money
Please Juventus buy Malinovskyi please buy him, you will never regret it. Its real world football superstar, buy Malinovskyi from Atalanta!!!
@ John, you only mentioned one lef footed in your line up. And that is one of the many problems this squad and one of the many reason they lost to many games, aswell.
Forza Juve:
You surely have man-crush on Malinovskyi. Been posting the same post for a week on all articles on this site.
But I hate to break it to you, but he is allready married.
I’ll hope you will cope with it and move on.
Wish you all the best.
