Juventus have released a statement via the club’s social media channels addressing racist chants and gestures witnessed during the Coppa Italia semi-final first-leg against Juventus on Tuesday night.

In an announcement on the official Juventus website and twitter accounts, the club stated that they are ‘working in collaboration with the police’ to identify the individuals involved in the racist abuse.

A series of discriminatory chants and monkey noises were heard from the stands of the Allianz Stadium during the eventual 1-1 draw, particularly after Romelu Lukaku’s 95th minute penalty.

Lukaku was shown a second yellow card for his celebrations after converting the spot-kick and was sent off, along with Samir Handanovic and Juan Cuadrado, who were involved in a physical altercation at the end of the game.

The statement read: “Juventus Football Club, as always, is collaborating with the police to identify those responsible for the racist gestures and shouts that occurred last night.

“Also in this case, the “Code of acceptance” will be applied to those responsible.”

Later, Juve defender Danilo also backed up his club’s stance on the matter, releasing a statement on twitter condemning racism and discrimination of any kind.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, Inter also released a statement offering their solidarity to Lukaku.
