There are reports Juventus made a €5m offer to Zenit St Petersburg to get Axel Witsel in January rather than wait for the summer.

The Belgium international had already agreed terms for a transfer on deadline day and sat waiting in the Juve HQ for 13 hours before Zenit pulled the plug.

That deal was believed to be worth in the region of €25m.

As Witsel’s current contract with Zenit expires in July 2017, it is widely believed he’ll join the Bianconeri regardless next season, possibly as a free agent.
