Juventus would like Alessandro Del Piero to become a director in a gradual phasing out of his playing career, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 37-year-old is out of contract in the summer and it now appears likely that the two parties will sit down to discuss his future at the beginning of March.

Del Piero has shown no signs of relenting this season, making more appearances than any other Juventus player.

He has played in 26 of their 28 games, averaging 55 minutes per match.

However, considering his age, Juventus are obliged to be realistic when negotiating the terms of a new deal.

The idea would be that of renewing Del Piero's contract, although with a series of key guidelines.

Juventus have in mind a gradual phasing out of Del Piero with the veteran initially to continue playing.

He would then become Gigi Del Neri's right-hand man, before possibly accepting a role as the club's ambassador.
