Leonardo Bonucci has underlined just how vital Sunday's victory against Bari was for his wounded Juventus side.

The Old Lady beat Serie A's bottom club 2-1 thanks to wonder strikes from Alessandro Del Piero and Alberto Aquilani.

"It was important to get the three points, especially as Milan drew 1-1 at Lecce later that evening which allowed us to close the gap to the leaders by two points," he wrote on his website.

"It was also a victory that we desperately needed after our poor showings against Parma [1-4] and Napoli [0-3].

"It was a hard game, played in a state of emergency, in which some magic from our captain and Aquilani allowed us to get the better of Bari."

The tie was a special one for the defender, seeing as he made his name in Serie A with the southern minnows last season.

"It was a significant game for me," he added. "Playing against a side who launched me at the highest levels and one which I am tied to is always emotional.

"Bari showed against us that they don't deserve to be where they are in the League.

"I hope that Bari can soon start to climb the table and get the results that they have shown they merit."
