According to the New York Times, some of the top European clubs, including Juventus, Milan and Inter have agreed to create a 'breakaway European club competition', and an announcement could be released today.

According to the report, the teams committed are limited to almost a dozen from Spain, Italy and England.

PSG, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have declined the invite to join the project.

"At least 12 teams have either signed up as founding members or expressed interest in joining the breakaway group, including six prominent teams from England's Premier League, three from Spain and three from Italy, according to the people with knowledge of the plans," the report states.

The clubs have been in secret talks for over a month and could release an update in the coming hours to overshadow Monday's plan by UEFA to ratify a newly designed Champions League.

The Premier League clubs committed to the Super League are Manchester United, City Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético are those in Spain and Milan, Inter and Juventus are the Serie A clubs involved.

The new competition would see 16 clubs participating as permanent members with four qualifiers from domestic competitions. The clubs would be split into two groups of 10, with the top four teams in each group qualifying for the knockout stages.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, DAZN has also taken part in talks but the company denied the report.

"Neither the Company nor Mr. Blavatnik are in any way involved or interested in entering into discussions related to the establishment of a Super League and no conversation in this direction has taken place," an official announcement reads.
