Torino coach Ivan Juric asserted that he was ‘proud’ of his players after Thursday evening’s loss to Lazio in Serie A, insisting that the team ‘will win a lot of matches’ if they play as they did against Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Torino fell to a 2-0 defeat against Lazio in Serie A, with goals coming within six minutes of each other from Biancocelesti midfielders Matteo Guendouzi and Danilo Cataldi.

The fixture had originally been scheduled to play in round 21 of Serie A matches in January, but was rearranged due to Lazio’s involvement in the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia.

Thursday’s result leaves Torino in 10th in Serie A, on 36 points, level with Napoli in ninth, although the Partenopei have played one game less.

“I’m proud,” Juric said in his post-match press conference, reported via TMW. He continued:  “Football can be like this. It’s one of the best matches since I’ve been here. There are no regrets when you play like we did.

“Congratulations to the boys, we have to be aware of what we can achieve and put our focus into the next match. We will win a lot of games if we play like we did tonight.

“I see a team on top of their game and I’m fear for the injured guys. We have to be happy, not frustrated. We created chances and they did not cross the half-way line for an hour.

“We need to improve in front of goal, but we didn’t throw the towel in. We have four days to prepare for Roma, we want to make all of our supporters happy and proud of us. I love them, they understand the performance we put in tonight.”

Asked about the decisions from the match officials, Juric replied: “I need to see the incidents again and not make a hasty judgement.”

Looking forward to this weekend’s fixture against Roma. Juric said: “They’re doing things differently under De Rossi, how they defend, how they attack. It will be a good challenge.

“I have a feeling we will compete, we have to be at our best because they are stronger than us on paper, but we can and will compete.”
