There were worrying scenes for Roma when Diego Llorente was stretchered off after an accidental collision during the Europa League play-off with Feyenoord.

The defender went up for the ball with Ayase Ueda and came off considerably worse, seemingly hitting his temple on the Japan international’s shoulder.

He seemed very dazed and after several minutes of treatment he was stretchered off, where he then was taken to a local hospital for tests.

Llorente did not appear to lose consciousness at any point, but was certainly unable to continue the match.

The 30-year-old Spain international is at Roma on loan from Leeds United with an option to buy for €5m that becomes an obligation if certain conditions are met.

This exit allowed Roma to give Evan Ndicka his first appearance of 2024 after returning from Africa Cup of Nations duty.

Roma and Feyenoord played out a 1-1 draw, the same result as in Rotterdam, so that fixture is going to extra time at the Stadio Olimpico.
