Ivan Juric celebrated Genoa’s victory over Fiorentina, but also confirmed Leonardo Pavoletti is heading to Napoli in January.

There were reports the centre-forward has been sold for €18m and even picked his new house.

“It looks as if there’s the possibility Pavoletti can leave and if he does then we hope an equally strong striker arrives. It’s disappointing, because he’s a splendid guy who really cares about the club colours.

“He turned it down in the summer, but now seems to have decided he will go,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia and Mediaset Premium.

Juric was speaking after a rescheduled Week 3 game, which was rained off on September 11, ending in a 1-0 win over Fiorentina.

“This side has a lot of young players who have struggled with Pavoletti’s injury. Despite not getting points against Inter, we put in a good performance.

“Nikola Ninkovic has quality, but he is very inconsistent and we’re working on that. I am happy for Darko Lazovic, as he missed six or seven chances to score this season and is finding his form.”

Paulo Sousa made massive changes to his side, starting Mauro Zarate.

“I was surprised by the 4-3-3 formation more than the players. Of course, if you have Nikola Kalinic and Josip Ilicic to come off the bench, then that really helps.

“We had two really bad games against Atalanta and Lazio, but other than that we’ve generally been doing well and just didn’t score. I would prefer us to control the match, but we do tend to be more effective when playing on the counter.

“I also feel that games against the bigger clubs like Milan and Juventus get the best out of my players because of their characteristics rather than just the motivation.”
