The Grifone have been overshadowed by transfer activity for the past month, as Tomas Rincon and Leonardo Pavoletti already left for Juventus and Napoli respectively.

Now Ocampos has been left out of the squad so he can complete his transfer to Milan, as he is only awaiting the all-clear from former club Olympique Marseille.

“Ocampos received the call from a big club. I am happy for him to be joining a side like Milan and we did good work together. I think we’ll do more on the market before the window closes.”

Meanwhile, Genoa have already brought in Adel Taarabt and Oscar Hiljemark from Benfica and Palermo respectively.

“It’s not easy to introduce so many new players into a group that is already struggling. We have to focus on the details and hold out under pressure, remaining aggressive, compact and efficient.

“When it comes to beautiful football, I’m afraid we’re going to have to put that as a secondary consideration until better times. I can see we’re in real trouble and need to push on through this negative patch.

“It is possible that Hiljemark will play. He can defend and attack very well, so is an interesting figure to work with.”

Danilo Cataldi sits out a ban with injured Mattia Perin, Miguel Veloso, Luca Rigoni and Serge Gakpe.

Genoa squad for Fiorentina: Edenilson, Gentiletti, Cofie, Izzo, Burdisso, Simeone, Ntcham, Hiljemark, Beghetto, Taarabt, Orban, Lazovic, Lamanna, Munoz, Pandev, Morosini, Tazzer, Zima, Pinilla, Quaini, Rubinho, Laxalt, Ninkovic
