Roma winger Juan Iturbe says he ‘never gave up’ after a poor start to the season, and discusses his derby goal.
The Argentinian joined the Giallorossi this summer from Verona, but initially struggled to settle in the capital.
“When I arrived, I started off well,” Iturbe insisted, in an interview with Roma Radio.
“I scored against Juventus and CSKA [Moscow], then I was hampered by injuries. It wasn’t easy, because the knee and the ankle have to be monitored very carefully.

“It was a mess, then we were playing badly and we couldn’t complete a pass, but I never gave up, I kept working to be at my best.
“We’re in the Champions League [for next season] and we’re happy. We’ve been criticised, but I dedicate the victory [in the derby] to my teammates, who have suffered with me this season.”
Iturbe then claimed his goal in the derby was so special, he wouldn’t swap it for a 15-goal season.
“It was a unique thing, something which you can’t always do and it was beautiful, I’ll never forget it.
“Would I swap it for 15 goals? No, I’d still want to score in the derby.”
