Roma have confirmed that Juan Iturbe has suffered a first degree groin strain, and it is seen as likely to keep him out for around two to three weeks.

The winger was forced to retire midway through the first half of the Giallorossi’s Champions League win over CSKA Moscow, and his club have now confirmed the extent of the damage done.

“Iturbe underwent a medical check that revealed a first-degree lesion to the pectineus muscle of his right leg. The player has already begun his recovery course,” Roma’s update from training today reads on their official website.

The pectineus muscle is situated on the inside of the thigh at the top as one of the muscles that together make up the groin.

Whilst Roma provide no recovery date on Iturbe’s injury, it is reported through a number of outlets that a first degree strain will likely keep him out of action for at least two weeks, if not three.

The player is therefore certain to miss the Lupi’s Champions League clash with Manchester City on October 1 and is seen as a doubt for the following weekend’s trip to Juventus.

Roma have also lost Davide Astori for around three weeks after he strained his right knee later in the same game on Wednesday.
