Italy are unbeaten at San Siro, but have drawn their last four here, while Milan joins Rome as the most popular Azzurri venue after hosting Portugal tonight.

The Nations League clash kicks off at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza at 19.45 GMT.

It comes a year after the 0-0 draw with Sweden ruled Italy out of the 2018 World Cup, having lost the first leg of the play-off 1-0.

That was their fourth consecutive stalemate at San Siro after friendlies against Germany in both 2013 and 2016, plus a Euro 2014 qualifier with Croatia.

The last match Italy won on Milanese soil was a 3-1 Euro 2014 qualifier against Denmark on October 16, 2012.

However, the Nazionale aim to continue their extraordinary record of never losing at San Siro, winning 31 here and drawing 12.

There were two defeats in Milan, both against Hungary in 1911 and 1925, but those were played at L’Arena Civica and Campo di Viale Lombardia, as what we now know as the Stadio Meazza wasn’t inaugurated until 1927.

Italy’s debut in this particular spot was a 2-2 friendly draw with Czechoslovakia on February 20, 1927.

Tonight will be the 58th time Italy have played in Milan, allowing it to match Rome as the most popular host city in the Nazionale’s history.

The overall record in Milan is of 37 wins, 18 draws and two defeats.
