Italy international Lorenzo Insigne reportedly stormed out of a Toronto FC training session following a ‘heated argument’ with coach Terry Dunfield.

The incident happened on Thursday, claims The Athletic, the row erupted because Insigne was being made to take part in a training routine with 20-year-old Deandre Kerr.

As he walked away, Insigne was reported to have made ‘derogatory comments’ about Toronto FC, suggesting he was not being treated the same way as Major League Soccer top stars, and that the argument continued in the locker room.

Toronto FC are a club in chaos, as Insigne was said to be one of the players pushing for coach Bob Bradley to be sacked.

Since his dismissal on June 26, the team has lost all seven matches played, failing to find the net in six of them.

Insigne arrived as a free agent in the summer of 2022 after his contract with Napoli was allowed to run down and is believed to be on a contract worth $14m per year.

Now 32, the former Napoli contract has made only 28 competitive appearances for Toronto FC, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists.

He has struggled with injury problems, but also tragedy off the field when his wife suffered a miscarriage soon after their move to Toronto.

  1. That’s MLS (Mostly Lousy Soccer) for you. I’ve watched the league since its inception. Too many clubs and not enough good talent. I didn’t think it would go well for Insigne, and sure enough…

  2. Insigne should shut his mouth. 14 million dollars to be a pylon. He can leave to Saudi Arabia if he wants…..

  3. Washed up player making 14 million to be a bench warmer. He wouldn’t be able to compete at a higher level than MLS anyways. Perhaps, he should go to Saudi Arabia. Let’s remember one other player came over to MLS and has completely transformed that team from last place to a contender.

  4. Typical of a superstar who come to MLS and think that they can burn the league. He’s worried to much about his image rather than his performance, very disappointing.
