Sassuolo are adamant that Domenico Berardi will not leave for Juventus this summer and look set to bring him back into the squad for Sunday’s match against Napoli.

That fixture kicks off at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

The Neroverdi opened their campaign with a 2-0 home defeat against Atalanta, but Berardi was not even called up to the group after he reportedly asked to be left to train with the players who are heading for the exit.

He was determined to push through a transfer to Juventus, though Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali has been very clear that they set a deadline for the Bianconeri and it was missed.

They have no intention of selling their captain with a week to go in the transfer window and it looks as if Berardi is starting to accept that, because he was back in training with the rest of the squad.

Berardi is expected to be part of the side making the trip to Naples this weekend, starting what will be his 11th consecutive Serie A season with Sassuolo.
