Italy icon Fulvio Collovati has been suspended for three weeks by state broadcaster Rai after making sexist remarks about women.
Collovati was forced to apologise on Twitter after he said during Sunday’s broadcast of Rai 2 show ‘Quelli che il Calcio’ that women ‘can’t talk about tactics. When I hear them do so, my stomach turns.’

Collovati was forced to apologise on Twitter after he said during Sunday’s broadcast of Rai 2 show ‘Quelli che il Calcio’ that women ‘can’t talk about tactics. When I hear them do so, my stomach turns.’
“I apologise if what I said at the end of ‘Quelli che il Calcio’ has impacted on the sensibilities of women, even if I said those things in a laddish way,” he replied.
“I’m sorry, but it wasn’t my intention to offend anyone. Whoever knows me knows how much I respect women.”
However, his comments sparked a backlash, with Italy women’s CT Milena Bertolini branding the 61-year-old ‘primitive’.
As a result, he will not appear on ‘Quelli che il Calcio’ for the next two Sundays or any other Rai programme until March 9.
The former Milan and Inter defender played 50 times for Italy, including every minute of the Azzurri’s triumphant 1982 World Cup campaign.
