The Italy squad arrived in Rome ahead of the World Cup qualifier with Switzerland by playing the same song that accompanied their UEFA EURO 2020 triumph.

The crunch match for top spot is on Friday at 19.45 GMT at the Stadio Olimpico.

These teams already crossed paths in this arena over the summer for EURO 2020, with the Azzurri winning 3-0 thanks to a Manuel Locatelli brace and late Ciro Immobile goal.

Only the group winners go directly into the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, while the runners-up enter a play-off.

The Italy squad made the trip from their training camp in Coverciano, near Florence, to Rome this afternoon via train.

As they stepped off the train at the Termini Station, the group was headed by assistant managers Fausto Salsano and Attilio Lombardo.

They had a portable speaker, allowing them to walk out to the tune of Un’Estate Italiana, the official theme song of the 1990 World Cup, also known for its refrain of Notti Magiche.

It was played throughout the summer in the Italy camp on their way to that triumph at Wembley for EURO 2020 and sung after the trophy was awarded to the players.

Having that song playing on the train and platform therefore represented a good omen for the Azzurri.
