After links with Napoli's Marek Hamsik were again shot down this week, whispers are starting to get louder that the San Siro giants actually want the Spaniard.

Although it is widely accepted that Barcelona would be the player's likely destination should he leave Arsenal, Milan are monitoring the situation.

With Barca being told by Udinese that primary transfer target Alexis Sanchez will cost €50m, it remains to be seen whether they will have the budget to net Cesc too.

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has intimated that the Rossoneri will make their move for Mr X in late August.

That strategy follows last summer's late swoops for Manchester City forward Robinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Barcelona.
