Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia has snubbed a loan move to Cagliari, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Reports emerged last night that Milan and Cagliari were discussing the possibility of swapping goalkeepers, with Amelia heading to Sardinia in exchange for Federico Marchetti.

Both players would have moved on loan.

However, although the Milan reserve would have been guaranteed first team football with the Rossoblu, Amelia seems to have turned down that opportunity.

Amelia was signed outright by Milan this summer after spending the past campaign on loan from Genoa.

Marchetti, meanwhile, hasn't played since the 2010 World Cup after a disagreement with Cagliari chief Massimo Cellino.

Marchetti, who is also wanted by Lazio, can be signed outright by any Italian club who pay his €5.2m release clause.
