Simone Inzaghi was under fire in the Italian press following Inter’s disappointing Derby d’Italia defeat to Juventus.

The Nerazzurri fell to a 2-0 loss to their bitter rivals at the Allianz Stadium in Turin yesterday, with goals from Adrien Rabiot and Nicolo Fagioli securing all three points for Massimiliano Allegri’s side. The result allowed Juventus to leapfrog Inter in the league table and Inzaghi’s team are now 11 points behind league leaders Napoli.

La Gazzetta dello Sport were highly unimpressed with Inter’s gap from Napoli in the league table, suggesting that “to find oneself 11 points behind Napoli is a serious sin.” The Milanese newspaper was also unhappy with Inzaghi’s usage of substitutions in the match, feeling that they changed little.

Corriere dello Sport noted how the Nerazzurri fell off in the second half of the match against Juventus, highlighting that “in the second half they lost balance, the pitch and the game.” The Roman paper also drew attention to Inzaghi’s poor choice from the bench, saying “at the end, even when he makes changes, nothing changes.”

Tuttosport reflected on Inzaghi and Inter’s goals for this season after their sluggish first half of the campaign, believing that they can no longer realistically aim for a title battle now, suggesting “Instead of thinking about Napoli, they will have to concentrate on finishing in the top four, not exactly a good prospect given the starry summer dreams.”

Finally, Corriere della Sera focused on Inter’s disappointing results on the road, writing how the Derby d’Italia defeat was Inter’s “fourth defeat away from home. If they were a travel agency they would already be bankrupt. The Scudetto is a mirage.”
