Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi insists he has a good relationship with President Claudio Lotito and claims Francesco Acerbi could recover to face Napoli.

Reports in Italy this week had claimed the Lazio coach would meet Lotito to discuss his contract extension.

“My relationship with Lotito goes beyond the rapport between coach and President, you know that. We met after the games against Club Brugge and Benevento. He was happy for the qualification for the last 16 stage of the Champions League, but he expected more than one point between Hellas Verona and Benevento, there are no problems between us,” Inzaghi said at a press conference.

Inzaghi insists the results Lazio will pick up in the next month are not decisive for his contract extension.

“Absolutely no, we have two tough games ahead of us, we want to play them in the best possible way, there are no problems with the President, we’ve been working together for 16-17 years.”

Francesco Acerbi is in doubt for the game but Inzaghi is optimist about his recovery.

“There is hope, he says he is feeling well. We’ll see how he does today and we’ll make the assessments with the medical staff.”

Lazio are having their worst start in Serie A in the Simone Inzaghi era with 18 points in the first 12 of the season.

“We are missing a few points in the League but I am sure we’ll sort it out. That’s what we’ve always done in the recent campaigns. We want to do well in Seire A.

“We are conceding more goals compared to last season, but our defenders are more or less the same ones. It’s not about defenders, it’s about the whole team. We all need to do a better defensive phase like we did last season, when we were the second-best defence in the League.

“We knew we would have difficulties with the Champions League and with a busy fixture list. We also had to deal with many absences, included those of Luiz Felipe, [Ciro] Immobile, [Manuel] Lazzari, Lucas Leiva and [Sergej] Milinkovic-Savic. Now, most of them are back to action and there is still time to do well in Serie A.

“It would be very important to beat Napoli. We know one point between Verona and Benevento is not enough. The game against Napoli must be like a new beginning for us.”
