Pippo Inzaghi believes the “Milan DNA is returning” after a 3-1 win over Lazio and welcomed Fernando Torres.

This was his debut competitive match as a senior tactician and SuperPippo was as excitable on the touchline as he used to be on the field.

“These 50 days of training helped us to form a great group,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I had said we could lose against more talented opponents, but not because they wanted it more than we did.

“It was a perfect game for the first hour, then we suffered a little, but that was only normal in the circumstances. The President was happy with the performance.”

Inzaghi had special words for some of his players on the night.

“I am happy for Abate, who at times has been unfairly criticised. He gave the assist to Muntari and sparked the Menez move for the penalty.”

Torres was in the stands after completing his two-year loan move from Chelsea, but how will he fit into Milan’s tactics?

“He will give us a big hand and the opportunity to make the most of counter-attacks. He had his medical tests today and set a new record for the team.

“What are our objectives? There are perhaps three teams who have something more, but with hunger, temperament and our fans back at San Siro, we could be a surprise.”
