Simone Inzaghi puts Lazio’s loss to Genoa down to “a bit of fatigue” and admits Felipe Anderson “could have done more”.

The Aquile fell to a shock defeat at the Olimpico tonight, with Diego Laxalt’s late header denying them the chance to move further clear of Inter and Roma.

“We had some difficulties, we faced a Genoa side who played the game they had to do,” Inzaghi noted, speaking to Premium Sport after the final whistle.

“They defended deep and we had to be better. Once we conceded the goal we managed to recover, but then we pushed too far forward looking for the win.

“There’s a bit of regret, maybe also a bit of fatigue, but that’s how it is and we just have to get our heads up and get on with it.

“Games like this can happen, but when they do you have to draw them and not lose them. I put Patric on to send that message.

“The only thing I’m angry about is that once we’d equalised, we had to avoid the 2-1 and not lose. We needed to be more lucid.

“We know what the fixture list is and we’ll try to keep the pace high, that’s why I try to rotate players as much as I can. We’ll have a lot of games in the coming weeks.

“It’s normal that you should be concerned after a defeat, we’ll see what went wrong knowing that we face the league leaders [Napoli] on Saturday.

“We’ll try to play our game and get a positive result.

“Did Roma and Inter’s results affect us? Absolutely not. We could have played better, but now we want to start again.”

Felipe Anderson came on with 20 minutes left, but repeatedly lost the ball in wide areas…

“He came on to be the fifth man in midfield, I had to unbalance the team and he had to adapt.

“He could have done more, as could others, but he’s a lad who was out for five months and is now trying to get fit.”
